Why should I choose the Solutions Architect Associate among the other AWS certifications?
That’s because attending this certification program will teach you how to design reliable, secure, performant, and cost-efficient systems using AWS. You’ll find out how to map business requirements into a robust architecture and how to guide it through the project. I find it useful during my daily job as a backend software engineer and when working on personal projects.
Whenever you’ll be designing an architecture for your system, you’ll be more proficient in picking the best tools for the job. You’ll know the most important AWS services from the five angles:
They are called “The 5 Pillars” and are defined in the AWS Well-Architected Framework. This certification puts a strong emphasis on those in the context of solution architecture on AWS. More on that later.
There’s a competing certification for developers called AWS Certified Developer Associate. It focuses more on developing, deploying, and maintaining applications on AWS. After some consideration, I chose, however, Solutions Architect as it gives a broad overview of “what’s there in AWS” and “why and when and how can I use it to solve my problems”. It’s true SAA-C02 doesn’t focus that much on the specifics of the services related to software development, but it teaches you when and why would you want to apply them. You’ll be able to profoundly argue eg why service X or Y would be a good choice in this particular solution and why other alternatives don’t fit well. All of that in terms of the 5 pillars. You wouldn’t then struggle to apply them in practice either.
